Top 5 Favorite Things About PR

– The opportunities: the public relations field has so many different job related opportunities. Every business needs some type of representation, whether it’s a restaurant, or one of the top company’s in the world. There are so many different field you can get into, you’ll never get bored. The people you meet vary in many different ways. Some are famous, and some may be community leaders, but you’ll never be around the same people.

-The Excitement: I had never been so excited about going to class until I took MCJ152s. Everything I learned made so much since. What to do in crisis situations, social media presence, and building your brand lectures all kept me very intrigued.

-The Potential Impact: I feel like there is nothing more rewarding than helping an organization overcome their business challenges. I’ve always like to help others, and to know that you are the reason your client or company exceeded its goals would be incredibly gratifying and it would make me love my job that much more.

-The Continuous Learning: I believe that in the field of public relations, you never stop learning. Social media is a big part of the PR world, and because it is consistently changing, I never know everything there is to know. This also means that throughout my career, I will always be changing the way I work with clients, which will allow me to have new experiences all the time.

-I also love the writing aspect. I believe I can have a creative way with words most of the time. I love connecting with people, promotions, media lists and video production. It’s a demanding job, but it involves so much knowledge that you gain along the way.

Before I graduate, I would like to learn more about the pros and cons of the profession. I like that I see so many things highlighted about the PR profession, but I wouldn’t want to walk in blinded by all of the ‘not so fun’ aspects of the profession. I’m sure that more hands on experience will teach me this lesson so I am eager to continue the journey to learning how to make the best of my career.

I don’t love football, but I don’t hate it either. It’s one of those sports where I will faintly watch it if someone else in the room has it on the television. I can watch football, and accomplish multiple assignments because I don’t care to watch any other parts besides the seconds before a touch down. Most people go insane for the touchdowns, but I just sit there and quietly celebrate with a small yay. Because I live by myself, you will never catch a football game on my television.

I definitely have a different perspective of the game when it’s in person. I don’t fully understand what goes on in the game, but it’s such a different vibe being in a stadium filled with raging fans, and the presence of the players. I’ve never been to an NFL game, but I’m hoping my significant other and I will be able to go to one in the near future. And I don’t have a favorite team because I refuse to be called a “bandwagoner,” so I choose to stay neutral.

I love going to the Fresno State games. When applying to schools, I refused to go to a school without a football team. I’m all about showing school spirit and I believe that football games are one of the best ways to display it. The vibe and excitement that goes on during game days makes me feel like I am living the ultimate college experience.

So if you ask me do I like football, I would say it depends on if I’m physically there or just watching it on television.

Social media definitely takes up a great amount of my time on a daily basis. With more than 3 different social media apps just on my cellphone, which include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Vine, I find masked constantly checking them for updates whenever I have a moment of free time.

I can’t say there are any social media websites I don’t like. There are plenty of apps out there that I don’t care to learn about or use. A few include Kik, Snapchat, Path, And Wanello. Apps such as these don’t appeal to me as much, because the components they’re made up of and their uses are already within the Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter apps I already have. I wouldn’t take the steps to download them and use up storage space that can be used for more productive apps.

My favorite social media app that I just can’t seem to stay off is Instagram. I feel like it has all the components of the other apps I use combined into one. I can have conversations, look at pictures, search for ideas for just about anything ranging from fall outfits, to new cooking recipes. It’s simple, doesn’t require too much navigation, or knowledge, and I can know a ton about my friends’ or even a stranger’s life just from their pictures and short captions.

Only time will tell, but I would like to know what social medias affect will be on human interaction in the future. I know that my relationship has definitely changed with my peers over time as I have become more engaged in social media. I see that more businesses, big and small, are starting to practice social media methods to obtain more customers, so I wonder how much technology will influence the consumer world.

In general, I am always trying to figure out more ways to build my professional and social brand for social media. Learning new ways to always find out the latest news, trends, and other topics would also be good for me to learn as it relates to the public relations career I would like to go into. There are a lot more things for all of us to learn in the coming years, and I am sure that we will all be constantly learning new things as it pertains to social media.

You look so nice.

Everyone sees you

But not everyone can have you

You may not shine as bright as the sun

But your shine brings so much fun

Your complexion is brown like a penny

Or maybe even tan like Winnie

Why must u look so good?

Everyone sees you.

But not everyone can fake you

You may have a ting of bling

And your shine looks good on a ring

You’re gold with a whole lot of sting.

Before Thursday, I had never been to the Fulton Mall in downtown Fresno. I had no idea what it looked like and had only heard other people’s opinions about it, which were not the most positive outlooks. My usual expectations of a mall are a place full of energy, an abundance of places to shop, and plenty of people. The Fulton Mall was the complete opposite. I figured that the Fulton mall would be a place where there were a lot of individually owned businesses that didn’t have many customers, but they were places that could have potential if they gained more customers and recognition from other local businesses and community members. Only having heard of one of the businesses, which was Kocky’s Bar and Grill, I imagined that working with the businesses would be a ton of fun, a little bit of hard work, and a great experience.

As I walked from the parking lot of the mall, my first thoughts of seeing the venue were that the outside looked really nice. The waterfall structure and mini park were the first things that caught my eye and I tried to come up with reasons in my head of why I hadn’t heard of this place before. First off, the place seemed very abandoned to be called a mall. There weren’t too many appealing places that made me want to shop or buy anything and I could tell that we had a lot of work ahead of us if the Downtown Fresno Partnership wanted to bring more attention to the place.

When we finally got to the part of meeting our clients, I got a little more excited and curious. The owner of Jalisco’s Jewelers was very welcoming and nice. As a well-established business with multiple locations, they already had a good amount of marketing strategies like Facebook, local flyers, and a website, so I wondered if they really needed our help with the extra marketing and exposure. Jalisco’s also had a large range of other services which included, bill paying services, money transfers, money orders, and even links and resources for travel services. My concern is that the business has too many different sales options and with all the services, it may be hard to just focus on marketing that it’s a jewelry store.

As I have had time to think about the project, I realize that our MCJ 158S class was chosen to work on this for a reason. It will actually give us real hands on experience to make something more of these businesses. I’m eager to see what kind of potential my partner and I really have to make these businesses really appreciate and benefit from our service. The thing that I am looking forward to the most is the ending outcome. Will our work actually make a difference of the community’s opinion about the venue? And will the Fulton mall and all its little businesses eventually be highly recognized in the city of Fresno. I know that it won’t happen in one semester, but eventually I would like to recommend others to go there for their yearly, monthly, or weekly shopping fixes.
